Lot 2416 GASTINE RENETTE BREECH LOADING PERCUSSION TARGET

PISTOL MADE FOR ROYALTY. Cal. 45. S# 3530. Usually found in cased sets this fine single pistol has 10" octagon barrel with center portion swamped to 16 sides and with remaining flats fluted. Center of top flat is engraved "INVon GASTINE RENETTE a PARIS". Bottom of barrel viewed when barrel is in forward position is also stamped with maker's name, S# and date (1886). Breech opens with long pivoting lever with "handle" as front part of trigger guard bow. This "handle" is two color relief gold inlaid with a sovereigns crown over the monogram "CM". Percussion breech has powder chamber exposed with barrel forward and is mounted with "U" notch rear sight. Island type front spring lock with rebated tail is fitted with serpentine hammer having tall thumb spur. Patent breech, lock and operating lever are engraved with near full coverage well cut miniscule scroll. Maker's name is on lockplate. Root European walnut flared pistol grip half stock is mounted with case hardened and engraved grip cap and attaches to barrel assembly with captive side bolt through engraved steel oval escutcheons. Nicely shaped sideplate is opposite lock and grip is checkered in fancy pattern. Rear portion of trigger guard has finger spur. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: James D. Julia Inc. invoice for this pistol at about $7,500. CONDITION: very fine. All metal parts retaining over 90% original finish with some light cleaned frosting. Stock retains over 90% original finish. Checkering very lightly worn. Bore is bright and shiny. Lock is crisp. Mechanically good. (01-27993/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
